Comments:  Fludrocortisone is a mineralocorticoid used with hydrocortisone to provide maintenance replacement therapy in the treatment of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The dose does not need to be increased with stress. Even with use of the mineralocorticoid, sodium supplementation is often required. The amount of mineralocorticoid and sodium are determined by following blood pressure and plasma renin activity. (Danish, RK: Abnormalities of sexual differentiation. In Fanaroff AA and Martin RJ, editors Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, fifth edition Mosby Year Book, Inc.: St. Louis, Mo. 1992:1259).
