Comments: Rimantadine is used for prophylaxis following exposure to influenza A. Appears to have less adverse effects in adults. Further comments. |
Toxicity: No toxic effects have been reported in children receiving rimantadine as prophylaxis against Influenza A. Nausea and vomiting may occur but resolve rapidly after the drug has been discontinued. Seizures have been occasionally reported in those with a history of a seizure disorder (The Medical Letter 1993; 35:109). |
Preparation: Rimantadine (Flumadine) is available in a syrup (50 mg/5 ml) and should be stored at room temperature. |
