Comments:
Treatment of refractory hypotension due to vasodilitation (as would be seen
with sepsis). Dose estimation based on case report of 11 infants and
children following cardiac surgery. Not recommended by the American Heart
Association due to insufficient evidence. | |
| Toxicity: Hypertension,
arrhythmias, bradycardia, cardiac arrest, bronchoconstriction, tremor,
urticaria. Skin necrosis associated with extravasation due to IV infiltrate.

Preparation: Vasopressin
will be prepared in the pharmacy in a 0.2
units/ml concentration to be used
with a programable infusion pump. When ordering
the drug, write for a "continuous vasopressin infusion,
0.2 unit/ml concentration at x milliunits/kg/min."
The infusion rate programed from the pump
can be double checked after 8/12 using the
drip sheet calculator (must have microsoft excel installed).
Discard
